Clark College is a community college providing two-year transfer degree studies, technical training and basic skills classes to more than 12,500 full-time and part-time students each quarter. It is the second largest college in the Washington State system of 35 community and technical colleges.

Washington State University began offering courses in Clark County in 1983. In 1989, the University formally established WSU Vancouver as a branch campus of the nationally-recognized university. The Vancouver campus is a premier, non-residential university with access to the depth and breadth of the WSU system. The Salmon Creek campus opened in 1996 and currently hosts educational opportunities to 2,300 students.

The city’s library system also contributes to community learning, providing state-of-the-art facilities for information access and literary discussion. The Vancouver Community Library circulates more than a million items per year. Another not-to-be-outdone collection of books and publications resides unexpectedly amidst retailers in the large mall of Westfield Shoppingtown Vancouver.

Study of a more natural sort is available throughout the extensive parks system of rain-kissed Clark County and Vancouver. Popular and pretty, the Memory/Mill Plain and Moulten Falls Parks never disappoint. Some of the region’s oldest parks – such as Vancouver’s Esther Short Park, founded in 1855 and home to the to the region’s oldest public square – nurture a historic beauty all their own. In addition, at 100 years of age, the still-operating Pearson Airpark persists as the nation’s longest-running airfield. For a weekend getaway, Vancouverites enjoy a brief visit to the slopes of Mt. Hood. Slightly longer drives whisk them to the base of lava-throated Mt. St. Helens.
